STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
Strength and conditioning (S&C) is an area that is frequently overlooked, or prescribed incorrectly - yet it should form a vital part of any runner or sprinter’s training meso and macrocycle. It’s also an area that Justin is particularly passionate about. With deep expertise and experience, working with young athletes through to seasoned professional athletes, Justin can prescribe a specific S&C programme for your event or distance.
Sprinting, for example, relies heavily on two key components - movement and force. Movement - it's patterns, biomechanics and technique work are coached and practiced in (primarily) a track-based environment. The force component, meanwhile, is gym-based, where strength and conditioning plays a vital part in enabling force.
For sprinters, Justin designs this gym-based aspect to mimic certain aspects of sprinting movements under load and stress to develop strength and power in those particular areas. Furthermore, Justin can design an effective macrocycle to help an athlete develop hypertrophy, strength, power, and speed-specific power.
Endurance athletes also need to programme strength and conditioning to be built into their meso and macrocycle. Strength conditioning is just as important for endurance runners - improving strength in both the posterior and anterior chain, whilst increasing tendon and ligament strength.
Regardless of your event or distance, incorporating strength and conditioning is key and will help reduce the chances of injury to keep you running longer.
